Vickery Meadow Branch Library groundbreaking set for December 4

Vickery Meadow Branch Library groundbreaking set for December 4

The Dallas Public Library will break ground for its 30th branch, Vickery Meadow, on Tuesday, Dec. 4, capping a long effort to build a much-needed library in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood of Northeast Dallas. Councilmember Jennifer S. Gates will lead the ceremony as part of the Vickery Meadow Festival of Lights holiday celebration. The event runs from 4 to 7 p.m., with the groundbreaking expected about 5:30.

The new library will feature a youth center with cutting-edge technology to serve the area’s diverse, economically-challenged population. The library was authorized in the city bond issue passed in 2017, and a $750,000 grant by Crystal Charity to Friends of the Dallas Public Library (FODPL) is funding the enhancement.

“This will be a great addition to our library system,” said Director of Libraries Jo Giudice. “Vickery Meadow has deserved a new library for a long time, and we know it will be a wonderful community center that will serve a lot of people.”

FODPL led the team that applied for the Crystal Charity grant, which Executive Director Mary Wilonsky said will make Vickery Meadow one of the city’s most innovative and effective libraries. “We’re thrilled and grateful for the support, and the recognition of how important libraries are to our city, and especially to young people,” she said.

The library will be built near the intersection of Park Lane and Ridgecrest Road, east of North Central Expressway.

The new lot is easily accessible from the airport entrance at Mockingbird Lane and Herb Kelleher Way. The lot is located just east of Herb Kelleher Way between it and Aubrey Avenue. Drivers can reach the lot from Aubrey Avenue by following the cell phone lot signage.

Those wishing to greet passengers in the terminal may park at lower-cost hourly rates in any of the three parking garages or valet. The first 30 minutes are free in Garages A, B and C.
