Economic Development of Red Bird Mall continues with new Starbucks

Starbucks is the latest business to commit to GrowSouth’s Reimagine Redbird initiative. Dallas community leaders gathered at Red Bird mall today to celebrate the opening of the new Starbucks and praise the chain for investing in Southern Dallas.

“They saw what Peter Brodsky (Red Bird Mall developer) is doing and that this city is investing $22 million in this area.” Mayor Mike Rawlings, “So I’m so glad that Starbucks has come along with it.”  Mayor Rawlings continued, “opportunities like this show the future is very, very bright.”

The Red Bird Mall location is part of Starbucks’ Community Store initiative, which is committed to hiring 100,000 Opportunity Youth by 2020.  It connects youth to education and meaningful employment opportunities association with in-store training programs. Dallas is the first Community Store in Texas and the 12th nationally.

The Red Bird Mall location was built by 3i Contracting, a local minority contractor. Starbucks also contracted with Dallas based artist collective Sour Grapes to create a custom mural inside of the store.

 

Mayor Pro Tem Casey Thomas, II, Councilmember Tennell Atkins, Councilmember Lee Kleinman, and Councilmember Adam McGough attended the opening as well as Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price and representatives from Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson.
